Australian artist Melanie Vugich's Two Banksias and Hockney, sculptural banksias and native blooms in a bright, Hockney-inspired setting, printed on a cosy, beautifully soft Australian merino wool scarf.
The story behind the artwork
Banksias are amongst my favourite subjects to paint. I love their wild, sculptural shapes, their quiet strength, and the expressive movement of their leaves. Each branch feels alive with energy, capturing the raw beauty and resilience of nature in a way that is both timeless and uniquely Australian.
About the artist
After growing up in Broken Hill and living in Adelaide and Sydney, I traveled to Europe, fell in love with Italy and made Florence the base for my textile-design business. In the 22 years since, I have produced fabric designs for high-end fashion labels such as Blumarine, Etro, Roberto Cavalli and Enrico Coveri. I have also participated in numerous art exhibitions. I am passionate about art.
