Portugal-based artist Sofia Brajal's Windswept Botanica, swirling, Van Gogh-inspired botanicals in strong yellows, oranges and blues, comes to life on a flowing silk long kimono that moves beautifully with you.
The story behind the artwork
Windswept Botanica is inspired by the style of Van Gogh, one of the greatest post-impressionist painters: the colours are strong and contrasting, and the shapes are curved and wavy, creating an effect of movement and energy. The image represents the eloquence of mixing feelings. The colours represent the diverse emotions that people experience throughout the year. However, the image also implies that time flies fast and that we should cherish every moment of life.
About the artist
I am graphic designer based in Portugal. Currently I work as a creative designer at an advertising agency based in Lisbon. When it comes to creativity I don’t tend to follow any single specific style. Instead I try to explore and mix different techniques. Disobedience is something of a necessary virtue for me. I try to follow that ethos all the time, which is an excellent method for finding many different sources of inspiration.
